About Palm Beach

About Palm Beach.

The Palm Beach market is two places at once, and that is its defining feature. Palm Beach itself is a narrow barrier island, sixteen miles long, with Worth Avenue as its commercial heart, Whitehall as its historic monument to Henry Flagler, and some of the most consistently maintained ocean beaches in the United States. West Palm Beach is the mainland city across the Intracoastal: bigger, livelier, more diverse, with a cultural scene that has matured significantly over the past decade. South of West Palm Beach the corridor continues through Delray Beach and Boca Raton, each with its own restaurant strip and beach character. The market we serve covers all of it, and the trip we recommend almost always uses both sides of the Intracoastal.

The travelers who come to the Palm Beach area split into three groups, and a vacation rental is the natural fit for each. The first is the cultural traveler, who wants the museums, the historic estates, the polo season at the International Polo Club from January through April, and the slower pace that the island insists on. The second is the family, who often choose Palm Beach Gardens or Boca Raton for the combination of beach access, top-rated schools and parks, and quieter neighborhoods. The third is the wellness-oriented or nature-oriented traveler, who comes for the Wakodahatchee Wetlands and the Loxahatchee River and Blue Heron Bridge snorkeling and the bird watching that few other Florida markets can match.

The neighborhoods within the Palm Beach market are unusually varied. Palm Beach Island holds the historic core: Worth Avenue, the Breakers, the Flagler Museum, and the residential streets that have changed less than any other place in Florida over the past century. West Palm Beach is the mainland city: the Norton Museum, Clematis Street, the riverfront, and a restaurant scene that has finally come into its own. Delray Beach is the walkable beach-town alternative half an hour south, with Atlantic Avenue as its spine and a casual energy that locals genuinely treasure. Boca Raton is the largest of the southern Palm Beach County cities, with the upscale Mizner Park development, top-rated golf, and a beach that is consistently among the best in the state. We help travelers think through which combination of these places matches the trip they want.

What separates the Palm Beach market from the rest of Southeast Florida is the cultural depth and the slower pace. The historic estates, the Gilded Age architecture, the Norton Museum collection, and the polo season together make this the most culturally distinct market in the region. The pace on the island and in older West Palm Beach neighborhoods is slower than Miami or Fort Lauderdale, in a way that visitors quickly come to value. The wildlife and nature experiences, especially north of West Palm Beach toward Jupiter, are the best in Southeast Florida. And the beaches across Palm Beach County are among the cleanest, widest, and least crowded in the state.

A note on regulations. Palm Beach County is one of the more short-term-rental-friendly jurisdictions in Southeast Florida in unincorporated areas, but several incorporated cities including West Palm Beach itself prohibit short-term rentals in most residential zones. The regulatory landscape varies neighborhood by neighborhood, which is why local management matters here more than in markets with simpler rules. Every StaySouth home in the Palm Beach market is in a permitted zone, registered with the relevant municipality, and compliant with Palm Beach County requirements. We do that work so owners can stay focused on what brought them into vacation rentals in the first place and so guests can stay focused on their trip.
